Wolf System: Managing complexity in the construction industry

The Company

With around 3,500 employees and more than 30 locations worldwide, Wolf System GmbH is one of the leading companies in the construction industry. The company supports projects from initial planning through production to final execution, offering customers an exceptionally high level of vertical integration. To manage the increasing complexity of products in sales, Wolf System has relied on camos as a partner for efficient sales processes for over 25 years.

  • Company: Wolf System GmbH
  • Location: Osterhofen (Headquarter)
  • Portfolio: Construction (steel, agricultural, industrial, residential, and container construction)
  • Website: www.wolfsystem.de

Highlights

  • Proven quoatation solution: Around 260 users now rely on camos software for configuration and quotation in building and container construction. This results in around 18,000 quotations being generated each year.
  • Time savings in the quotation process: Depending on its complexity, preparing a quotation now takes around 30 minutes. Previously, specialist consultants often needed a full working day to complete this task.
  • High quality standards: Configuration rules ensure that all quotations contain only technically valid product combinations. Standardised texts and layouts also ensure that all documents comply with the corporate identity and are formally and legally correct.

Previously, preparing a quotation took at least three hours, often a full working day – using Excel, Word, and a separately drawn plan. Today, we can complete it in around 30 minutes, depending on complexity.

How Wolf System standardises and scales its quotation process

Objectives

  • Establish an efficient, error-free, and standardised quotation process.
  • Implement a solution capable of rule-based configuration and pricing of complex building and container variants.
  • Create a future-proof foundation adaptable to new products and evolving requirements.

Results

  • Around 260 users now rely on camos software as the central tool for configuration and quotation in building and container construction.
  • Quote preparation time has been reduced to approximately 30 minutes, depending on complexity (previously often a full working day).
  • A robust framework has been established to handle around 18,000 quotations per year.

Wolf System: Tailor-made construction instead of standard solutions

Wolf System operates across a wide range of sectors, including agricultural, steel, commercial, and industrial construction, as well as container and residential building. This broad portfolio is a clear competitive advantage – but also presents a significant challenge for sales: quotations must reflect highly diverse products, locations, and technical requirements.

In construction, no two projects are alike. Rudolf Baumgartner, Head of IT at Wolf System, explains: “We don’t build standardised halls – we deliver buildings in a wide variety of dimensions, designs and site conditions.” All of this has a direct impact on configuration and pricing.

Initial situation: Quotation processes spread across multiple systems

Before introducing camos as a central quotation tool, the process was fragmented across several systems, including a CRM system, Excel, Word, and a database-driven product configuration tool. A CAD programme was sometimes used for visualisation.

This setup had evolved and had become increasingly difficult to manage. Particularly for complex quotations, this led to media discontinuities and significant coordination effort. Document versions and calculations were difficult to track, while price lists and product variants required constant updates. At the same time, the limits of product logic were reached: technical dependencies and variants could only be mapped partially, and the maintenance effort increased as complexity grew.

To bring configuration, pricing, and quotation processes under control in the long term, Wolf System chose to implement camos CPQ.

Managing complexity in configuration and pricing

Wolf System uses the camos solution in building and container construction to systematically manage a high degree of product variation. This includes configuring building envelopes, substructures, and various container solutions, all while accounting for numerous technical dependencies.

For example, the same building may require entirely different specifications depending on its location, due to varying weather conditions and load requirements. These differences directly influence material selection, structural design, and, ultimately, cost calculation.

Seamless integration into existing Systems

To ensure efficiency and automation, the camos solution is fully integrated into the existing system landscape. It accesses CAD data and product catalogues and is connected to the company’s proprietary ERP system.

This enables sales engineers to structure quotations, calculate variants, and provide customers with initial documentation much faster, including draft designs generated directly alongside the quotation. This level of detail at such an early stage is a key competitive advantage, as many providers cannot deliver it.

Quotations in 30 minutes instead of eight Hours

The most visible impact of introducing CPQ is the significant increase in speed. Baumgartner explains: “Previously, preparing a quotation took at least three hours, often a full working day—using Excel, Word, and a separately drawn plan. Today, we can complete it in around 30 minutes, depending on complexity.”

However, the benefits go far beyond time savings, with a significantly higher level of quality in the quotation process being the key advantage: configuration rules and pricing updates are maintained centrally just once and are automatically applied across all quotations, ensuring that only technically valid product combinations are possible, quantities are calculated consistently, and pricing remains transparent and fully traceable, while standardised texts, payment terms and layouts ensure that all quotations comply with the corporate identity and meet both formal and legal requirements.

The scale of usage highlights how well the solution has been adopted: around 260 users now generate approximately 18,000 quotations annually with camos CPQ. For Wolf System, this clearly demonstrates the long-term value of investing in a robust CPQ framework.

Continuously developed – with a clear future Outlook

Following implementation, Wolf System has continuously expanded and refined the camos solution over many years. This has been possible because the system is flexible enough to reflect the specific requirements of its business model.

At the same time, development is far from complete. Topics such as calculating the CO₂ footprint of products are already on the agenda for the next generation of the quotation process. The camos solution has therefore evolved into a central platform that enables Wolf System to integrate new requirements into its sales processes systematically.

The success of this approach is largely based on strong collaboration – an idea also reflected in the words of company founder Johann Wolf: “Whatever we do and achieve – it is only possible through the effective collaboration of everyone involved.” This success story reflects exactly that: expertise, persistence, and a clear shared direction.
