Price and cost calculation in mechanical and plant engineering

Machine and plant manufacturers have to meet individual customer requirements in order to hold their own against the competition. For plants containing customer-specific modified components (Engineer-to-Order - ETO), it is not sufficient to simply offer a technically and functionally suitable solution.

Another key challenge is to determine the optimal price: It must be competitive and at the same time guarantee the best margin. To calculate the basic manufacturing costs, in addition to material and production costs, many others must be taken into account: for example, from engineering, simulation and production planning.

A modern CPQ system (Configure, Price, Quote) builds up the cost and price calculation systematically and clearly. In an environment with dynamic framework conditions and complex, customer-specific products, it ensures the company's success by creating the following conditions:

  • A fast, reliable and clear calculation of all costs and prices: Even supposedly small changes often have a major impact on total costs for complex products. With a CPQ system, the sales department always maintains an overview and the company secures its target margin.
  • A flexibly adaptable calculation scheme: The scheme for price calculation and changing product or cost structures must be flexible and adaptable without programming effort.

With the Costing Module, camos ensures the described prerequisites. It is integrated into the camos CPQ solution as an intuitively operable tool for flexible price and cost calculation. In essence, it enables the controlled and error-free construction of complex costing models. Simultaneously to the configuration and design of the products, costs, prices and margins are calculated for complete, competitive quotations: fast, reliable and flexible - even for ETO projects.
