Managing variants for the machine construction industry with product configurators
Michael Huellenkremer, Managing Director of the software company camos in Stuttgart, outlines the advantages of product configurators for the machine construction industry. They do not only combine components, they also provide the basis for quotation generation at the same time. In line with a CRM solution the configurator also supports the sales people to make correct offers according to technical and commercial requirements. The modularisation helps to handle the variant diversity, because the construciton kit reduces the inner variance. By this way the run-through times are shortened and the share of special services goes down from 40 to 70 to only three to five percent.
