“Extra-added value through value appreciation” That is the motto of Fraunhofer president Professor Dr. Hans-Jörg Bullinger, and it touches the preeminent core of the 25-year history of Stuttgart’s camos Software und Beratung GmbH. “Our market position can be attributed by and large to our highly qualified and highly motivated employees,” report company founders and CEOs Michael Hüllenkremer and Hans-Jürgen Lehnert. The Fraunhofer spin-off today is the largest provider of configurations in Europe, and employs 56 staff members, of whom 15 are occupied in research and development alone. Michel Hüllenkremer sums it up: “Ever since our days at the Fraunhofer Institute for Labour Economy and Organisation, IAO, we have been dedicated to the challenge of how product knowledge can be depicted in order to be simply and easily called up and re-used in highly flexible ways.” This is how the product configurator was born, which provides flanking solutions for quotation generation and is responsible for 70 percent of current revenues to date. The equity-to-assets ratio of the company, which is run by its owners, is 50%. More than 300 customers use its software in more than 30 different countries around the globe. In the last five years, they have implemented more than 120 projects with resounding success. About 50,000 employees from the sales and special sectors of the company work with solutions of the configurator specialists. Worldwide concerns such as ABB, Festo, KONE, Schaeffler, Siemens and Voith deploy its software daily. But also medium range companies such as Arburg, Demag, Gildemeister, Homag and Liebherr depict and portray their working processes, from customer inquiries all the way to approved orders, with these solutions. As Hans-Jürgen Lehnert puts it, “Our software development thrives on the ongoing feedback from and communication with our users. At each new release, a flow of requests and demands from our customers is let loose.” In 2010, the overall revenues amounted to 6.9 mil. euros, manifesting a growth rate of more than 11 percent, compared to the previous year. Even in the future camos will steadily expand its market presence.
